TAROLOGY: WHEN SYMBOLS REFLECT OUR SOUL.

It is often our search for answers that brings us closer to a different, more subtle, esoteric and intangible level of things. Attracted by an unknown magnetism, we take uncertain, curious yet instinctive steps towards disciplines and tools that allow us to move the Veil of Maya.

The world around us and the means it offers to help us as we perceive them, however, are nothing but the reflection of our inner reality, the result of a cause-effect relationship between the mechanics of our mind and the way in which its thoughts are projected onto people, places and situations. The answers we need can never be found outside, but always and only within us. In fact, our future is not enclosed in a deck of cards, much less inside a crystal ball or a birth chart. It’s our own choices that give shape to the events: all those small, big decisions that inhabit the small but significant space that resides between the stimulus we receive from the outside and the response we decide to give. There, every day, at any time and in any circumstance, the universe gives us the opportunity to rejoin our immense human potential, offering us continuous and significant opportunities for growth, freedom and happiness. How can we make sure to catch them? By navigating our inner world, delving into our shadows, recognizing, welcoming and working on our traumas to learn how to heal our wounds, preventing them from becoming the main metric by which to measure and judge what is happening in the present, blaming ourselves and the others.

In this regard, cartomancy, and tarology in particular, can be seen as an important vehicle of self-knowledge. As an instrument rich in symbols, through contemplation, tarots become a way to access our awareness and our inherent cyclical nature, which with its succession of deaths and rebirths, reflects nature. Attracted by the vibrations of our own energy frequency, tarots are then a mirror of our soul that translates our life into archetypes, helping us to face our current level of awareness and to see our path more clearly, illuminating the direction in which we are going.

Indeed, the images of the cards that are being extracted awaken in the consultants the deep awareness of what is happening at that particular moment in their life, inviting them to question themselves through a self-analysis that directly involves the psyche. Therefore, it’s not about prediciting the future, but rather of what is written in the present, and how it can influence us in the short term. An all-encompassing vision of the here and now, as the only real time, which contains both the legacies of the past and the transformative and constantly changing processes of the future.

PR by profession and tarologist for ten years by passion and vocation, Caterina Tritto started studying tarot by herself, after a chance encounter along the Camino de Santiago which led her to approach the studies of Alejandro Jodorowsky and his partner Marianne Costa, later one of Caterina’s teachers. Through their teachings, she built her foundations, finding her own way of understanding tarot, where the symbol is transformed into a magnifying glass of the present, becoming a concrete aid for reflecting on life.

A Q&A with Caterina Tritto

How do the cards and the consultant play a different role in what the future holds?

The consultant is at the center of the whole experience, the cards are purely a means to open doors of the consultant’s own awareness. Nothing is created from the cards, everything is already present inside the consultant. Tarot are just a mirror capable of reproducing a less corrupted image of one's self. They are the breath of wind that dissolves the fog of one's thoughts to make room for linear, simple and sometimes, finally, almost obvious reflections.

As human beings we are all made of infinite nuances, how can a deck of cards contain them all?

Tarot cards, like the words of all the languages of the world, are pieces to be composed, which, depending on the composition, are able to reveal the most disparate messages. Tarot archetypically represent the cyclic phases of life, always different yet symbolically always the same for those who are dedicated to developing their own awareness. Each symbol, number, shade of color contains within itself multiple meanings, evoked from time to time according to what the composition of cards requires. A good interpreter will never have the presumption of thinking that he has given a definitive reading, precisely because of the unlimited amount of possible scenarios.

How has tarot helped you along the path your personal growth?

The tarot have and are helping me to practice listening with a different intensity, to look beyond the first layer and above all to exercise compassion, refraining from judgement.

Was there a moment when the cards showed you something uncomfortable that you refused to accept, and if so, how did you go through and welcome this departure from your comfort zone?

Since my adolescence I have always had a very complex relationship with my mother. For many years it was easier to exclude her from my life than facing the issues in our relationship. Just around the same time that the fracture was born, I began to be fascinated, almost obsessed, by the figure of the moon. Then starting to study the tarot, of course, I immediately chose “La Luna” as my card. I have only recently realized that this moon that I wear in pendants, seen in drawings near me as well as on the tattoo on my left hip, is actually the mother I've been depriving myself of for years. Not only in the tarological tradition but in many cultures, the moon is the great mother par excellence. Incredibly, I’ve only recently realized that I wanted to be an orphan and at the same time that I always needed to have my mother close. It's such an obvious link, yet I'm just starting to figure it out, and I’m still trying to process it properly, by accepting that my idol is also my devil. But this is precisely the beauty of the cards: all is one.

Il mondo che ci circonda e i mezzi che mette a disposizione per aiutarci, nel modo in cui li percepiamo non sono però che il riflesso della nostra realtà interiore, frutto del rapporto di causa-effetto tra la meccanica della nostra mente e il modo in cui i pensieri che produce si proiettano su persone, luoghi e situazioni. Le risposte che cerchiamo non si trovano mai al di fuori, ma sempre e solo dentro di noi. Il nostro futuro, infatti, non è racchiuso in un mazzo di carte, tantomeno in una sfera di cristallo o in un quadro astrale. A dar forma agli eventi sono le nostre scelte: tutte quelle piccole, grandi decisioni che abitano lo spazio tanto ristretto quanto significativo che risiede tra lo stimolo che riceviamo dall’esterno e la risposta che scegliamo di dare. Lì, ogni giorno, in qualsiasi momento e circostanza, l’universo ci dà la possibilità di mettere a frutto il nostro immenso potenziale, offrendoci continue e significative opportunità di crescita, libertà e felicità. Come possiamo assicurarci di coglierle? Attraversando il nostro mondo interiore, addentrandoci nelle nostre ombre, riconoscendo, accogliendo e lavorando sui nostri traumi per imparare a guarire le nostre ferite, evitando che diventino il metro principale secondo cui percepire e giudicare quello che accade nel presente, colpevolizzando noi stessi e gli altri.

In questo contesto, la cartomanzia, e in particolar modo l’arte dei tarocchi si inseriscono come un importante veicolo di autoconoscenza. In quanto strumento ricco di simboli, i tarocchi, attraverso la contemplazione, diventando un modo per addentrarci nella consapevolezza di noi stessi e della nostra intrinseca ciclicità, che con il suo susseguirsi di morti e rinascite, rispecchia quella della natura. Specchio del nostro mondo interiore, in quanto attratti dalle vibrazioni della nostra stessa frequenza energetica, i tarocchi traducono la nostra vita in archetipi, aiutandoci a prendere coscienza del nostro attuale livello di consapevolezza e del nostro cammino, illuminando la direzione in cui stiamo andando.

Le immagini delle carte estratte, infatti, risvegliano nel consultante la coscienza profonda di cosa gli stia accadendo in quel momento della vita, invitandolo a interrogarsi e a iniziare un lavoro di autoanalisi che coinvolge direttamente la psiche. Non si tratta dunque di una predizione del futuro, ma piuttosto di ciò che è iscritto nel presente, e di come può influenzarci sul breve termine. Una visione onnicomprensiva del qui e ora, come l’unico tempo reale, che ha in sé sia i retaggi del passato sia i processi trasformativi e in continua mutazione del futuro.

PR di professione e tarologa da dieci anni per passione e vocazione, Caterina Tritto si è avvicinata ai tarocchi da autodidatta, dopo un incontro fortuito lungo il Cammino di Santiago che l’ha portata ad avvicinarsi agli studi di Alejandro Jodorowsky e della compagna Marianne Costa, successivamente una delle sue Maestre. Un Q&A con Caterina Tritto

In cosa differiscono e che ruolo ricoprono rispettivamente, le carte e il consultante, in quello che il futuro riserva?

Il consultante è al centro di tutta l’esperienza, le carte sono puramente un mezzo per aprire porte della sua stessa consapevolezza. Nulla viene creato dalle carte, tutto è già presente nel consultante stesso. Le carte sono uno specchio in grado di riprodurre un’immagine meno corrotta possibile del proprio sè. Le carte sono il soffio di vento che dissolve la nebbia dei propri pensieri per lasciar spazio a riflessioni lineari, semplici e a volte, finalmente, quasi ovvie.

Come esseri umani siamo ricchi di infinite sfumature, come può un mazzo di carte contenerle tutte?

I tarocchi, come le parole di tutti i linguaggi del mondo, sono tasselli da comporre, che a seconda della composizione sono in grado di rivelare i messaggi più disparati. I tarocchi rappresentano archetipicamente il ciclo di fasi di una vita, sempre diverso eppure simbolicamente sempre uguale per chi sia votato a sviluppare la propria consapevolezza. Ogni simbolo, numero, sfumatura di colore, racchiude in sé stratificazioni di significato evocate di volta in volta evocate a seconda di ciò che la composizione di carte richiede. Un buon interprete non avrà mai la presunzione di pensare di aver dato una lettura definitiva proprio per la quantità illimitata di possibili scenari.

In che modo i tarocchi ti hanno aiutato lungo il tuo personale cammino di crescita?

I tarocchi mi hanno e mi stanno aiutando a praticare l’ascolto con un’intensità diversa, a guardare oltre il primo strato e soprattutto a esercitare la compassione, astenendo il giudizio. 

C’è stato un momento in cui le carte ti hanno mostrato qualcosa di scomodo che rifiutavi di accogliere, e se sì, come hai attraversato e accolto questa uscita dalla comfort zone?

Dall'adolescenza ho sempre avuto un rapporto molto complesso con mia madre. Per tanti anni è stato più facile escluderla dalla mia vita piuttosto che affrontare consciamente questo nodo. Proprio nello stesso periodo in cui è nata la frattura ho iniziato ad essere affascinata, quasi ossessionata, dalla figura della luna. Iniziando poi a studiare i tarocchi ovviamente ho eletto da subito La Luna come “la mia carta”. Solo recentemente ho realizzato che questa luna che io porto nei ciondoli, nei disegni vicino a me, nel tatuaggio sulla mia anca sinistra, non è altro che la madre di cui mi sono privata per anni. Non solo nella tradizione tarologica ma in tantissime culture la luna è per eccellenza la grande madre. Incredibilmente mi sono resa conto solo di recente di aver voluto essere orfana e allo stesso tempo di aver sempre avuto bisogno di avere mia madre vicina. è un collegamento così ovvio, eppure sto iniziando a realizzarlo da poco, e devo ancora veramente processarlo, per accettare che il mio idolo sia anche il mio diavolo. Ma proprio questa è la bellezza delle carte. Tutto è uno.
